Creative Equine Photography Across the UK
Professional Equine Photographer in Leicester and the Midlands
Horses are more than companions; they’re majestic, graceful beings that become a part of who we are. Capturing their beauty and the bond you share is at the heart of my equine photography.
PERSONAL EQUESTRIAN PHOTOGRAPHY: YOUR HORSE AND YOU
Horse and Owner Photography
Your horse is beautiful and so are you. Horses are a reflection of beauty and strength, and the bond you share is truly unique. Together, we’ll create artistic equestrian portraits that highlight this connection—whether walking, standing, or riding.
Before the session, we’ll discuss everything from location and outfits to your horse’s personality to ensure they feel safe and comfortable. Horses don’t like standing in one place for too long and often prefer moving freely, so a familiar, enclosed field where you can walk together is ideal. We’ll use the natural light to create stunning moments of interaction that you’ll treasure forever.
Equestrian Photography In Action
There’s nothing quite like the beauty of a horse in motion—the powerful stride, flowing mane, and expressive eyes. They are a joy to watch, powerful and poetic, and action shots bring out this poetry in their movement, showcasing their strength and grace.
We can capture running horse portraits in a field or arena, with or without tack. Whether your horse is on a lunge line or moving freely, the result will be dynamic and awe-inspiring.
Textured or Black Background Horse Photography
Horses on black background look stunning.
Horses are such beautiful creatures that it is very tempting to edit their photos with a painterly feel. You can choose between black background-neutral and well-used in the equine photography world, or a more arty textured background.
Black background portraits elevate equine photography into fine art, creating a timeless and elegant look. These portraits use controlled lighting and editing techniques to emphasise your horse’s striking features and individuality. It’s a classic choice for showcasing their beauty in a truly artistic way.
Depending on the stables and whether there is a barn or indoor school, I can create head, head-and-shoulders, or full-body portraits on a black or textured background.
The larger the “door” of the covered area, the more variety we can achieve in capturing your horse. The key is positioning the horse in shade but close enough to natural light, while you hold them and your helper captures their attention.

Tips for A Smooth Horse Photography Session
Your horse’s safety and comfort and yours are my top priorities. As you know them best, I will follow your guidance as to what is possible and what isn’t. Plans may need to adjust on the day based on your horse’s mood and behaviour.
- Your horse should be clean and well-groomed, as if ready for a show. The head collar and bridle should be the best for your horse’s safety. If possible to use, I have a very thin halters that can be used and are easy to edit out for a “naked” look.
- Having another pair of hands is very useful to get the horse’s attention when you are being photographed with them, so please bring a friend.
- Please bring more treats than you think you’ll need, water, wipes, and a selection of noise-making items to keep your horse engaged and happy.
