Big family photoshoot at Victoria Park and Leicester synagogue.
It was supposed to rain ALL day but we risked it and managed to find a window to do outdoor photos, even if we had to run into our cars in between two sunny spells. I’m so glad we did because I am in love with these photos. I had sent my advice on clothing to the family and they obviously took it to heart because there is a sense of unity and harmony while being individual. Not only do the colours harmonise between them, it also matches their skin and hair and also the season, beautifully. The guys opted for a clean and smart look which speaks of their unity as a family.
I loved their energy and creativity- I don’t tend to pose people, though I will prompt if people are uncertain what to do- so all this is their doing, their imagination, their flair. They played, and laughed, and swung and pretended to be moody.
The great thing with a big family photoshoot is that there are so many opportunities, for both more posed and totally candid photos. They had individual portraits and pairs with their favourite siblings, and their parents, it all felt very organic and joyful. The older son was a master at organising everyone! It reminded me of my summer camp leader days! But i didn’t have his energy or confidence when I was doing it as an 18 year old.
I didn’t know Leicester synagogue so I was very honoured to be shown round in the women’s area. I have never photographed a bar or Bat Mitzvah or a Jewish wedding- though I was a guest at one in my family. I would love to though, so if you have a Jewish ceremony coming up, please get in touch.
