Children photos around Mountsorrel
Mum is a photographer and has a great eye for details, quirkiness, little things we would not normally notice so I was honoured she asked me to take photos of the boys. They say that working with children is like herding cats, so the best thing is to treat them like cats, ignore them, follow them, see what they like and let them do what they like, then play with them.
Three brothers, the first one, more serious, football mad, soft and loving his brothers but also sometimes annoyed with them. The second one, full of life, soft-hearted, full of admiration for his big brother. The last one, Happy Baby, quite tough, smiles and delights in anything, independent, fearless. It seems that the pattern applies to many families. I actually know a child who calls himself Happy Baby. Each position has its challenges and its advantages, and each child is a unique personality.
Do you remember the scene in Amelie where she puts her hands in bags of pulses, to enjoy the feel of them passing through her hands? I thought of that when I saw the boys touch the wheat, like a caress, I get it, I do that too in passing, like a hello that goes both ways. Fields are great to play in, get lost in, hide in, and they’re beautiful backgrounds. I didn’t know where we were going and didn’t suggest to them to go in, but it felt like a good little childhood adventure. Of course we had to find a place to kick the ball, let that energy go, and the playground was a great for all ages and confidence levels. Happy Baby loved the little capsule, it made him look like an astronaut and I love the detail of his hand on the plastic. Yes I played peek a boo with him there.
And of course he had to try to climb like his big brothers, that’s why he’s tough, he falls more, attempts things that are not his age yet, but that’s how he learns and nappies are a good padding.
Just a little walk behind the house, a normal summer evening, nothing special but still priceless.
