I know I say that of all my couples but Kirsty and Alex are really special people, individually and together. I loved their mix of enthusiasm, cool and joy of life when I met them but hearing the speeches made me realise how truly incredible they both are, not just sportive- a marathons a day through the desert?!- and generous- volunteering in Botswana- but fun and embracing life to the full, a real inspiration.
Their wedding was just like them: beautiful, relaxed, fun, somewhere with charm and personality, with many kids of all ages, all adorable and very much adored by everyone. The family and friends were not just very friendly to me and many of them multi-lingual, they organised some entertaining yet moving songs.
The men in Alex’s family sang a welcome to our family song in Dutch to Kirsty, and Alex’s friends had prepared a Blues song they sang with great gusto and feeling. I enjoy multicultural, multi-lingual atmospheres and was spoilt with 3 languages as Alex’s parents live in France and many of his family were happy to chat to me in French.
They chose East Bridgford Hill because it’s a venue with a heart, a real lived in a place where the owners shared the day discreetly and graciously, helping run the day. I had the great pleasure of sharing the day with Thomas the Caterer, an amazing chef and man with whom I had worked before. (And even got to hug my friend and colleague Val from Benessamy Events whose daughter was helping Thomas).
The hall has a lot of ground, an orangerie, a grand staircase and fabulously decorated rooms. For the couple shots as it was pretty cold, we had a short walk around the ground and found some lovely blue chairs and shed, which let us have some tranquil, loving photographs, a good reflection of their day.
