Family Portrait Photographer Derby

In the  UK for a sabbatical semester, Carolyn wanted photos to remember their time here as well as all the relationships captured. She wanted the photoshoot somewhere near Derby, somewhere “British” but with space to move around and be spontaneous. I suggested several places and she chose Elvaston castle. I love this place and have done couple shoots there before as well as going for my own enjoyment.

The three children – Lorelei, Juliana and Isaac- get on well, although there are some rivalry between the siblings as usual. The little one has down syndrome and gets a lot of attention from the parents and the older girl, Lorelei. It was lovely capturing their individual spirits as well as their relationships. Isaac fell in love with one of my toys and played with it a lot.

The family wanted some shots of all of them together, as well as a variety of other shots. I used to be a primary teacher and have worked and played with children of all ages and personalities. I enjoy letting them be themselves, happy, free spirits, wild even, or mardy sometimes too, I just make sure they’re safe.

What Carolyn said was

“What I enjoyed most was how easy it was.  We have had photo shoots in the past and they have seemed like work.  A lot of posing and fake smiling.  This wasn’t like that.  

You captured our family in a dynamic and flattering way.  The photos of the children capture their personalities but still convey the relationships between them. 

The photos also have a sense of motion to them – whether it’s laughing or running or just looking. 

 I really don’t know how you did that but you did.  When I look at these photos, I see relationships and energy and affection. “
