Fun Family Portraits in Town
If you read my blog, you will have got to know this beautiful family, since I have photographed their lives from their engagement session to their wedding, pregnancy, baby and family portraits. Jose-Miguel is growing up and they invited me to stay with them in Spain. I posted earlier about a reportage way of capturing their lives together in the small details that makes a home. We also wanted to do a proper session and started impromptu when I spotted an old door I liked, then moved to a village known for its coloured walls.
Backgrounds don’t have to be complicated. I love rusty doors and flaky paint and look at coloured walls thinking which skin tone or eye colour they would suit best. Usually I shoot in nature but urban shoots can be just as vibrant and colourful. I don’t pose. I might suggest things for you to do, games to play etc, but I am always happy to follow the children’s lead as the photos will be a true reflection of their personalities.
With this approach , kids don’t have to behave. Jose-Miguel is full of energy and very slippery when held, but it has to be fun for him and everyone. The shoot is about having a good time and enjoying each other, and having photos to remember the moment. I shoot from the heart, and photographing people I’ve grown to know and love means everyone is relaxed and has fun. To learn more about my approach, read here.
