Home birth photography in Leicester
Pooja is a hypnobirthing tutor at Mystrimumma in Leicester so I was curious to see how the birth was going to unfold. I have photographed other births done with hypnobirthing so I knew they can be very soft, very natural, but nothing is ever guaranteed.
I had not met Pooja before, which is always a bit strange, meeting someone in labour for a first meeting but I was struck by her beauty, and the energy she projected. a mixture of power, peace and flow, I think are the best words to describe it. She glowed.
I was interested in the vocabulary used to eliminate any negative connotations. Contractions are surges, and they are intense, powerful. Yes I remember that well.
There was lovely music playing and affrimations on a CD. Hemant, her husband and very much partner in this adventure, had cards to remind her of the affirmations they had chosen. It was their secret, a way for him to be with her and support her. Very moving.
The midwives arrived to set up the pool, but the baby was already on his way so she knelt on the bed. I had my two boys kneeling too.
I loved how she reached out to feel his head arrive. It was beautiful seeing him crown and come out naturally.
He was passed to her between her legs and suddenly all the emotions crashed together, it was love at first sight. Tears of overwhelm and happiness.
The baby latched on immediately and for hours, so his big brother was a bit frustrated to not be able to hold him straight away but he helped the midwives. he was very well aware of all the medical terms and preocedures, a very sharp, very active, very aware little boy.
I was awed by the sense of peace and connection, they shared. I hope to see the little one grow up, it’s always such an honour.
