Kent Castle and Tipi Wedding: Ben and Sal
This was actually the first wedding I shot professionally, in 2009. Of course I like to think I’ve got better but I still like it and would love to shoot another tipi wedding soon. The reception venue is Walmer castle in Kent. They had an outdoor ceremony and luckily the weather was perfect for it.
A tipi wedding is very much a wedding where you coordinate your team of suppliers so it can be a lot of work. See my wedding planning articles on outdoor weddings on the blog. They hired a whole field so their friends camped around the tipis and I did take morning after photos when I went to say hello in the morning but no, I will not divulge them. What happens in Vegas..
The wedding ritual was conducted by a multi-faith celebrant. I’d never heard of it before, but have since met several people who help couples write their own ceremony and/ or ritual, including elements of various faiths if they want, leading it as a humanist wedding or whatever the couple ‘s values and beliefs are to truly celebrate them.
Ben and Sal enlisted several of their friends to participate and make the wedding even more personal so singing and music was done by friends. The parents were involved in the ritual and the blessings and shared handkerchiefs when they teared up.
