Creative Newborn Photography with Props in A Natural Environment

Artistic and Natural Newborn Photography with Parents

Portraits by Lumière Photography

This session with a Sikh family and their newborn baby beautifully combined artistic newborn photography with the warmth of a home environment. I visited their home, where we transformed their lounge—a space with large French doors providing soft, natural light—into the perfect setting for creative and intimate photos. We rearranged furniture to create cosy spaces for the baby, using layers of blankets on the floor and a neutral-coloured wall for some of the portraits.

One of the joys of at-home newborn photography is incorporating items that are meaningful to the family. The parents selected their favourite blankets and wraps, and we included culturally significant props, such as the Sikh sword or Kirpan. These personalised touches made the session deeply unique and reflective of their family’s heritage.

Grandparents joined the session, adding multi-generational love to the gallery. I love the photo of dad’s resting lightly on his son’s belly, breathing him in, and mum’s eskimo kiss, nose to nose. With newborns I include many photos as their expressions change all the time, and I mix colour and black and white.

Why At-Home Newborn Photography Is Better Than a Studio

There’s no need to go to a studio for artistic and creative newborn photography. Being in the comfort of your own home is better for both the baby and the parents. The familiar surroundings help everyone relax, and we can incorporate meaningful props, items, and spaces that reflect your family’s personality and culture. Plus, at-home sessions are flexible, allowing us to go with the flow of your baby’s needs.

If you’re looking for artistic newborn photography or a newborn photoshoot with props and parents, I’d love to create a session that’s personal and memorable. Get in touch to book your session!
