Newborn Family Photoshoot in Garden

Portraits by Lumière Photography

This outdoor newborn photoshoot was something special—it was my first full baby photoshoot outdoors, not just a quick pop into the garden after an indoor session. But it was a perfect spring day, and Whatton Gardens was the perfect setting with its natural beauty.

I’d photographed this couple during their beautiful bluebell maternity shoot, so it was a joy to see them again, this time as a family of three. I was amazed by mum’s strength and grace—just days after her caesarean, she moved slowly but glowed, looking radiant despite the lack of sleep and the challenges of a not-so-easy birth.

What made this session even more meaningful was the presence of grandparents. We often focus on baby photos and forget to include older family members who might not be with us for much longer. This session was both—a celebration of the newborn and a tribute to the love passed through generations.

When I shoot at home, a newborn photoshoot is not really posed. There are a few organised photos, but mostly, it’s about being in awe of the little person—or people—and discovering their personalities. Here, in the outdoors, the session felt a little more set up. We arranged beautiful group shots with both families—one from the UK and the other from the USA. It was such a rare and special occasion to have everyone together.

Here are some of my favourite moments from this shoot—I wish I could share them all.

Whatton Gardens is a stunning location for all types of photoshoots. I’ve done couples and family photoshoots there before, but this was my first full outdoor newborn photoshoot. The peaceful setting and soft spring light added so much charm and warmth to these images.

If you’re looking for outdoor newborn photography, a baby photoshoot in your garden, or family portraits with grandparents, I’d love to help. Let’s create photos that will hold a special place in your family’s story.
