Wedding at the Organ Grinder Pub in Loughborough
Usually it’s the bride who contacts me and tells me what she likes, wants etc but I’d only heard from Lewis before I met them on the day. I liked him before I met him because he was very clear, very direct, perfect communication.
The wedding ceremony was at the registry and we did group photos and couple photos there, but we also went to Southfield Park so make the most of the autumn colours. It was mild and dry, a perfect day.
I knew the Organ Grinder pub from when I used to take salsa lessons there, with Amanda- see her engagement photos here– and I’d done a classical shoot there before, when the wooden panels were dark, so we could recreate a classical painting atmosphere. I do these for fun!
The upstairs room had been repainted a lovely duck egg colour but the windows still gave the classical chiaroscuro lighting I love. The day was very relaxed, the focus was on spending time with people they loved. The cake was two faced, looking classical then revealing another side to it, which was fun. There were other cakes too, just as delicious.
I always love the speeches. It’s a moment where I find out more about the couple I’ve been photographing. I find out what’s special about them, what is moving, why people love them uniquely. I was moved by the bride’s dad honouring her mum for raising such a beautiful woman on her own since he’d left when she was young. As a child of divorced parents this was incredible! and mum took it in, which was beautiful too.
The maid of honour and best man were very nervous but super sweet people. I grew to like them in that very short time and I hope to bump into them in Loughborough.
I loved the bride’s dress but even more, her grace. She moves with soft, flowing movement, like a dancer or a swan, unaware of how poetic and beautiful she looks.
I really enjoy these small, relaxed weddings, where people focus on what matters most: love and friendship.
Some words from Sarah:
Hello Alix, it was a wonderful day and I’m glad we picked you as our photographer 🙂
The dress we got from Bridal Reloved in Oadby
Joanne Frith is the seamstress who made all the corrections for me she’s absolutely wonderful
The suit was from Suit Direct in the Leicester High Cross
The caterer is a lady called Glynnis, she’s a member of my grandma’s church, she’s retired but she’ll do the odd event here and there for them, she doesn’t have any social media.
The cake was made by my colleague Julia, she used to own her cake shop for 20 years and still does the odd one here and there
The Hair stylist is a lovely lady named Kelly
We put our own playlist for the music together, the flowers for my bouquet and all the other decorations I got off Amazon 🙂
I was hoping that it would all go smoothly, what with it being a registry office wedding we didn’t have much control or knowledge beforehand exactly how the ceremony would happen, we were in their hands on the day, it all went well though. Lewis was hoping that the day wouldn’t be too stressful and that it would be a chilled out wedding which I definitely think it was, it was a cosy day which fit us perfectly.
I think collectively our favourite moments were showing off the cake, the walk around Southfields park with just us two and you. I loved the speeches, my dad, Paige and Liam were all nervous going into it but they all did fantastic. Personally I also liked at the end of the night when Lewis and I went home and we got to reflect on the day just the two of us about how wonderful the day had been.
And from Lewis: Thank you so much Alix, The photos were perfect! You really made us feel so comfortable and I’m so glad we went with you! People could tell you were a pro and knew what you were talking about! Even with some of my friends who say they aren’t photogenic, you got beautiful photos out of them haha, and you were also just very nice! Hope you had a lovely day like we did! I’d recommend to all my friends and family, 10/10
